Founded in 1970, J.LR O’Donnell Dental Practice offers the highest standard of dental care, with our skilled Dentists, Hygienist, Reception and Nursing Staff, who are highly qualified with many years experience in private practice. Our team is passionate about providing you with the best possible care and we ensure to keep up with the latest developments and facilities available.

As a patient you will be treated as a valued individual and we will ensure to listen to any concerns or questions you have. We understand that visiting the dentist, can be a daunting experience, therefore treatment is never rushed, appointments are at your convenience and any dental costs will be agreed with you in writing before treatment commences.

We also offer Care Plans allowing our patients to budget for the cost of their dental care, with Plan Members receiving offers and discounts to reward them for their loyalty to us, which we value very highly.

Our practice is a detached villa, prominently situated in the South East of Edinburgh, with dedicated parking, treatment rooms and disabled access for our patients. We also welcome children and young adults in higher education treating them under the NHS scheme.

I joined the Practice in 1997 and I have always found it important to continue learning, updating my skills, learn the latest techniques and innovations that have come in over the years – and offer these to our patients. My special interests are in Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry, always looking for the best methods of saving teeth.

I particularly find nervous patients rewarding to treat as I feel for their anxious predicament. I love being to tell a nervous patient to be proud of themselves for coping so well with their treatment.

I am married with two young boys. I have always enjoyed Blues Music and I play guitar and piano and sing in various Blues Bands.

Fraser Borland joined the practice in November 2019, to replace the departing Simon Atkinson, who had been with us for over 10 years.

Originally hailing from Glasgow, Fraser spent his formative years in Bath, England, only to return to sunny Scotland for his dental training in Dundee. Upon Graduation, Fraser completed his Vocational Training year, in Edinburgh, and joined a practice in Edinburgh for the next few years. During this time, he went on to complete further training and sat exams with the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, to become a Member of the Faculty. Ever wanting to expand his dental knowledge and skill base, Fraser then embarked on 2 years of training in Oral Cancer and Oral Surgery, in Dumfries & Galloway, and at St. John's Hospital, in Livingstone.

Following this training, he and his fiancé, Morag, moved to Auckland, New Zealand, to work in Private Practice. He continued to attend courses and constantly updated his knowledge and skills. After 2 years, the lure of Scotland proved too strong and Fraser and Morag have set up house and home back in Edinburgh.

Fraser is completing an Implant Masters course over the next 2 years and will be adding this to the list of treatments which he can carry out for the patients here at the JLR O’Donnell Dental Practice.

Outside of Dentistry, Fraser plays a lot of sport and has been playing for the local rugby club, Lismore RFC on and off for the last 6 years.

During the 4 months of Covid-19 Lockdown (April to July 2020), Fraser was the first point of contact to discuss all sorts of Dental Emergencies patients had, and he was the first on-hand to see patients when we were allowed to. He even personally delivered Antibiotics and painkillers to patients all around Edinburgh, on his bicycle, when patients had to stay at home.

Ever a smiling face, Fraser is always on hand to offer treatment or advice to anyone needing it and looks forward to seeing you soon.

Having completed my training at the Edinburgh Dental Institute in 1999, where I was awarded the Ash Instruments Prize for Clinical Excellence, I started working here at the JLR O’Donnell Dental Practice in 2000.

During my time here, I have had the privilege of working with some lovely people, both patients and members of staff alike.

I work closely with the dentists to tailor treatment plans to meet the specific needs of all our patients, but due to the increasing number of patients with implants, this is especially important.

I like to ensure my patients are relaxed and informed, explaining treatments and offering reassurance and treatments available.

In my free time, I enjoy going out for dinner, cooking and home baking, along with spending time tending my garden in the Scottish Borders.

When I am feeling energetic, I love running along the river and indulging myself on an occasional shopping trip, here in Edinburgh.
